More Information:
After a 90-minute hike along the scenic Potomac River, we’ll arrive in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. Touring options for the remainder of the afternoon include visiting the quaint shops and museums in the historic district. Among these is the John Brown Museum. Brown led initiatives to raid a federal building where ammunition was stored to arm slaves. Many historians suggest that his actions provided the spark that led to the U.S. Civil War in the 1850s. Also noteworthy is Jefferson Rock, overlooking the confluence of the Shenandoah and Potomac Rivers. President Thomas Jefferson noted that the view from this rock alone made the trip across the continent worthwhile! On the way home, we'll stop for dinner in Frederick, MD, at the Golden Corral (a buffet restaurant with over 100 different food choices).
